Short note: The Josephinum is currently closed as it is under renovation.
The Josephinum, which rises so imposingly in its late Classicist splendor, was built from 1838 to 1841. It is reminiscent of Florentine palazzi. Between 1841 and 1909 the “Herzogliche Friedrichsgymnasium” was housed here.
The house repeatedly housed different educational institutions: a teachers' seminar, a secondary school, a commercial vocational school, etc. In the meantime, the library of the Natural Research Society of the Osterland was also housed here. The regional assembly of the duchy used the auditorium from 1848-1884 as a meeting room.
It has been in a deep slumber since 1997. From this it should now be awakened. An interactive exhibition on the history of gaming, the "Yosephinum", is being created on three floors.
In an interview, Lord Mayor André Neumann tells what exactly you can experience in the future in the "Yosephinum".

In a multimedia adventure world that is unique in Germany so far, the history and present of gaming are to be presented on three floors and in more than 20 themed rooms.
The exhibition area itself will be a game in which you can determine your path through actions and decisions and learn new things through play.
The Josephinum is being expanded with an extension - there you can take part in professional workshops in the Game-Lounge and the Innovation LAB, exchange ideas with others and find out everything you ever wanted to know about games.
